Peanut Butter: The Test of Sincerity

"Anonymous" challenged my level of compassion because I don't support the business of begging. This is ironic because my naturally compassionate nature has made me a magnet for beggars so many times over the years that I have had multiple interactions with them.

There are two classes of beggars, sincere and insincere.

One out of ten are sincere. They are hungry, and they are satisfied with food. The food which keeps the best and has the most fat and protein, as well as is most easily transported, is peanut butter. Very few people are actually allergic to it, and truly hungry people are grateful to receive it.

Nine out of ten are insincere. Insincere beggars, panhandlers, are running a business by finding a target [you] and selling a product [their story.] They have a radar for compassionate people and will tell whatever story will put the bucks in their pocket. After so many interactions with them, I also have a radar for insincere people. I think that is what prompted my rather flippant entry the other day. I'm weary of the insincere approach.

I am giving my heart and soul to a covenant-based organization which I am convinced is changing the world, one heart at a time. And the best part? "No salesman will call on you."
